Traditional Distribution

Image
The traditional distribution model of a film is film promotion. Movie companies such as Marvel, 20th Century Fox, and Lionsgate, advertise their movies very well. They make trailers for commercials, buy billboards, and use social media such as Instagram to promote their movie. We would use social media to advertise because it is free, and we have a limited budget. We would make an Instagram account and post a few times a day, to get the most possible people to see our posts.

Eighth Grade is a comedy/drama film about a young teenage girl going through her last week of eight grade. She struggles with anxiety but tries to get social acceptance from her peers in the final week of middle school. The audience for the movie will most likely a little younger than our audience, because it is a movie about middle school. The most appealing aspect about the movie, just like our movie, would be its comedy aspect. Without the comedy, the movie would be a sad drama. The comedy lightens it up a lot.

The Edge of Seventeen is a drama/comedy about an awkward high school junior, whose brother is dating her best friend. She feels alone until an unexpected friend shows her that all hope is not lost. The audience for the movie will be similar to ours. It most likely will be teenagers looking for a serious movie, but also for a laugh here and there. Just like our film, the comedy aspect would be most appealing. If the movie didn't have comedy, it would be a boring film and it wouldn't have made as much as it did.

The Breakfast Club is a drama/comedy movie that follows five teenagers who are all in different "cliques" in highschool. Their different personalities clash at first, but then they realize there more than there stereo types and come together to face a villainous principal. The audiences for this movie is most likely going to be teenagers and young adults, because it is about the complex lives of teenagers. The comedy appeal to the audience much like ours, because the movie wouldn't be as entertaining, and not as many people would have watched it.

My Target Audience

The target audience of the film is most likely teenagers and young adults looking for a laugh, but also a suspenseful movie. The movie would show in most places across the United States, and possibly other countries that speak English. If we put voice-overs or subtitles in the movie, other countries that don't speak English could watch the movie. Income range for our target audience would be middle to upper class, because they have disposable income that they can use to go to the movies. Education levels would most likely be high/middle school, since the dialogue is easy to understand, and they would find it funny. They could be intrested in mafia or crime movies. When we incorporate comedy, it is a bonus because people can have a laugh while they are watching a suspenseful movie. The most appealing aspect of our movie is comedy and suspense

Marketing Plan

We plan to use social media apps such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. Many people are on social media for a lot of the day. We will post previews of our film, to get people interested. These clips will leave them wanting to see more. On Instagram, we will make a sponsored ad of our movie, people will see this while they are scrolling. On Snapchat, we will make a filter, so when people are taking selfies, they will laugh and want to go see our movie. Facebook reaches out to the older generation, because many adults use Facebook, will teenagers use other social media such as Instagram. Facebook will reach the older generation, because when they are scrolling through there feed, ads for our movie  will show and they will become interested and go see the movie Instagram ads will reach many people as they scroll through their feed.
